Items Needed for Each Basket

Baskets due on Nov. 24

 Traditional Thanksgiving baskets

​

  • $30 gift card to Safeway

  • 1 box ready to prepare stuffing mix

  • 1 large can of yams

  • 2 cans of corn

  • 5 pounds of potatoes

  • 2 cans of ready to serve gravy

  • 1 can cranberry sauce

  • 1-2 liter bottle of Sprite or 7-up

  • 1 dozen rolls

  • 1 pound butter

  • 1 pumpkin pie (to be purchased by others)

  • 1 can whipping cream

  • Small fall plant

  • Card signed from donating group

Eritrean/Ethiopian Baskets

 

Top priority items:

  • Berbere (Traditional spice blend – in powder form – it can contain up to a dozen different spices, primarily red pepper). Available on Amazon.

  • Green coffee beans (unroasted coffee beans)

  • Olive oil

  • Red lentils

  • Shiro (ground chickpea flour)

  • Teff Flour (primary ingredient for making Injera – similar to a crepe, that is the foundation of every meal)

  • Golden Temple flour (primary ingredient for making Hambesha – a traditional bread)

  • Traditional chai spices (pre-packed, contains, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and cloves)

  • Mango juice

  • Panettone

 

Bonus items:

  • Popcorn kernels

  • Hard candies (it is a holiday tradition to serve popcorn with small wrapped candies along with the coffee ceremony)

  • Canned sardines

  • Yellow onions

  • Carrots

  • Potatoes

  • Cabbage

  • Tomato paste

  • Garlic

 

All of these items together would allow a family to make the traditional dishes of Alecha and Doro Wat, and enjoy the traditional coffee ceremony, serving panettone and popcorn for dessert.

 

The specialty items that are on this list that may not be found in a typical grocery store can be found in Shoreline at Enat Souk (market), located at 14616 15th Ave NE. Hours are: 10 am – 9pm, or at Harambe Market, located at 15005 Aurora Ave N. Hours are 11 am – 10 pm.

***additional items for the Micronesian basket: plantain chips, canned coconut milk and tapioca pudding.

Additional instructions:  

Please drop off your completed baskets by Sunday, November 24th or you may also stop by the Ministry Center on Monday morning, November 25th.

Please bring completed baskets only.

 

Please mark your refrigerator items with your name and keep all items in one box with your name on it. 

 

If you, your community group, Bible study would like to help out, please contact either Mona Roosendaal or Barb Larkin and let them know which basket you will be dropping off.
